BLACK RIVER USD #39
Black River High School and Middle School (formerly part of the Two Rivers Supervisory Union in Ludlow, Vermont) served as a small, community-focused educational institution nestled in the heart of the Okemo Valley. As a public school serving students in grades 6 through 12, it was known for its intimate learning environment, which allowed for strong student-teacher relationships and a curriculum tailored to the specific needs of its rural student body. The school functioned as a hub for the town of Ludlow, emphasizing a personalized approach to education that integrated traditional academics with the unique cultural and recreational opportunities afforded by its location in a mountain resort community.
In recent years, the district underwent significant organizational changes, leading to the closure of the Black River campus as a traditional district-run school. While the physical site and the "Black River" identity remain historically significant to the region, the facility has since transitioned to serve new purposes within the local educational landscape, including the establishment of an independent school, Mountain River School. The legacy of Black River USD #39 remains centered on its history of fostering close-knit academic growth and its long-standing role in shaping the lives of students in the Ludlow and Cavendish areas.
