ROBESON HIGH SCHOOL

Robeson High School is a Title I public high school that is part of the Chicago Public Schools Dist 299 school district, located in Chicago, IL with about 136 students offering grade levels from 9th Grade to 12th Grade. A Title I school provides supplemental financial assistance to school districts for children from low-income families. Its purpose is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education. With about 9 teachers, Robeson High School has a student/teacher ratio of about 15:1. The national average for public schools is about 15:1. A lower student/teacher ratio is a key factor that determines how much a teacher can devote his/her time to each individual student thus improving, or reducing (in the event of a higher student/teacher ratio) the attention each student is given for their educational needs.

Paul Robeson High School, located in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, has a complex history marked by significant changes in the city’s educational landscape. Originally established as a traditional neighborhood high school, the school was famously phased out by Chicago Public Schools (CPS) starting in 2018. This decision was part of a broader district initiative to close under-enrolled schools and consolidate resources to create a more modern, state-of-the-art educational facility for the community.

In 2019, the site reopened as the brand-new Englewood STEM High School, representing a $75 million investment aimed at providing students with advanced career and technical education. While the original Robeson High School name and legacy remain a vital part of Englewood’s history, the current campus serves as a symbol of the neighborhood's revitalization. The new facility focuses on preparing students for high-demand fields such as information technology, engineering, and digital media, marking a transition from the old Robeson era to a future-focused academic environment.
