IDAHO YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY SPRING
IDAHO YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY SPRING is a Title I public high school that is part of the OROFINO JOINT DISTRICT school district, located in PIERCE, ID offering grade levels from 9th Grade to 12th Grade. A Title I school provides supplemental financial assistance to school districts for children from low-income families. Its purpose is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education.
The Idaho Youth Challenge Academy (IDYCA) is a residential, quasi-military program designed to help at-risk youth, ages 16 to 18, who have dropped out of high school or are at risk of doing so. Located in Pierce, Idaho, the academy operates under the authority of the Idaho Military Division and utilizes a structured, disciplined environment to foster academic achievement, physical fitness, and personal growth. The program aims to instill the values of leadership, citizenship, and self-discipline in students, providing them with the necessary tools to complete their high school education and develop a clear, positive path for their future.
The academy follows an intensive 22-week "Residential Phase," followed by a 12-month "Post-Residential Phase." During the residential portion, cadets live on-site and adhere to a strict schedule that balances classroom instruction—focused on credit recovery and GED preparation—with community service, vocational training, and life-skills development. By removing students from their previous social environments and placing them in a supportive, goal-oriented setting, the IDYCA aims to divert youth from delinquency and academic failure, ultimately empowering them to become productive and responsible members of their communities.
