IDAHO YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY FALL

IDAHO YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY FALL is a Title I public high school that is part of the OROFINO JOINT DISTRICT school district, located in PIERCE, ID with about 118 students offering grade levels from 9th Grade to 12th Grade. A Title I school provides supplemental financial assistance to school districts for children from low-income families. Its purpose is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education. With about 6 teachers, IDAHO YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY FALL has a student/teacher ratio of about 19:1. The national average for public schools is about 15:1. A lower student/teacher ratio is a key factor that determines how much a teacher can devote his/her time to each individual student thus improving, or reducing (in the event of a higher student/teacher ratio) the attention each student is given for their educational needs.

The **Idaho Youth Challenge Academy (IDYCA)**, located in Pierce, Idaho, is a voluntary, quasi-military residential program designed to help at-risk youth reclaim their education and gain the discipline necessary to succeed in life. Operated by the Idaho National Guard, the program targets teenagers aged 16–18 who have dropped out of high school or are at risk of doing so. Over the course of a 22-week "residential phase," cadets live on-site and follow a structured, rigorous daily routine that emphasizes physical fitness, academic improvement, and leadership development.

The academy’s core mission is to provide an alternative educational environment that prioritizes the "Eight Core Components": academic excellence, life coping skills, job skills training, responsible citizenship, service to the community, leadership and followership, health and hygiene, and physical training. By removing students from their previous environments, the IDYCA aims to instill self-discipline, promote character development, and assist cadets in earning their high school credits or GED. Following graduation, the program continues with a 12-month "post-residential phase," where graduates work with local mentors to ensure they remain on a positive path toward further education, military service, or employment.
