Fresno County Special Education

The **Fresno County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA)** is an administrative branch of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools that serves as the governing body for special education services across the region. Rather than functioning as a traditional K-12 school site with classrooms, the SELPA acts as a collaborative regional network. Its primary mission is to ensure that all students with disabilities residing within its jurisdiction have access to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment, in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

The organization works in partnership with local school districts to provide essential support, resources, and oversight for special education programs. This includes coordinating professional development for educators, managing legal compliance, facilitating mediation and dispute resolution, and ensuring that specialized instructional materials and support services—such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and behavioral interventions—are effectively distributed.
