AUGUSTA REGIONAL YOUTH DETENTION CENTER
The Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC) is a secure residential facility operated by the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). Located on Mike Padgett Highway in Augusta, the facility serves as a short-term confinement center for youth who have been charged with delinquent offenses and are awaiting court hearings, or who have been committed to the state’s custody. Its primary purpose is to provide a safe, structured, and secure environment while managing the legal and behavioral needs of juvenile offenders in the region.
Because the facility functions under the jurisdiction of the Georgia DJJ, its operations focus on balancing public safety with rehabilitative programming. The center provides residents with access to essential services, including educational instruction, behavioral health counseling, medical care, and nutritional support. The goal of the Augusta RYDC is to ensure that youth in the juvenile justice system receive consistent supervision and the opportunity to engage in programming designed to address the root causes of their delinquent behavior while their legal cases are processed.
