OPPORT AWARENESS CTR
OPPORT AWARENESS CTR is a Title I public high school that is part of the KATY ISD school district, located in KATY, TX with about 80 students offering grade levels from 6th Grade to 12th Grade. A Title I school provides supplemental financial assistance to school districts for children from low-income families. Its purpose is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education. With about 25 teachers, OPPORT AWARENESS CTR has a student/teacher ratio of about 3:1. The national average for public schools is about 15:1. A lower student/teacher ratio is a key factor that determines how much a teacher can devote his/her time to each individual student thus improving, or reducing (in the event of a higher student/teacher ratio) the attention each student is given for their educational needs.
The **Opportunity Awareness Center (OAC)** is a specialized campus within the Katy Independent School District (Katy ISD) designed to serve students who require an alternative educational setting. Rather than functioning as a traditional neighborhood school, the center focuses on providing a structured, supportive environment for students who may be struggling in a standard classroom, those transitioning back from disciplinary placements, or individuals who benefit from a more personalized, credit-recovery-focused curriculum.
The primary mission of the OAC is to foster academic success and behavioral growth by removing traditional barriers to learning. Through smaller class sizes and tailored instruction, the staff works closely with students to help them meet state graduation requirements and gain the social-emotional skills necessary to succeed. By aligning with Katy ISD’s broader educational goals, the Opportunity Awareness Center plays a critical role in the district’s effort to ensure that all students have a pathway to graduation, regardless of the challenges they may face in their primary school environment.
