YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP SCHOOL

The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS) of East Harlem is a public, college-preparatory secondary school (serving grades 6–12) that operates with a specialized mission to empower young women. Founded in 1996 as the flagship of the Young Women’s Leadership Network, the school is built on the philosophy that single-gender education in an academically rigorous, supportive environment can bridge the achievement gap. The curriculum focuses heavily on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and humanities, providing students with advanced coursework and mentorship opportunities designed to prepare them for success in competitive colleges and professional leadership roles.
