COALITION SCHOOL FOR SOCIAL CHANGE

The **Coalition School for Social Change** (often referred to as CSSC) is a public secondary school located in the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. Operating within the New York City Department of Education system, the school is founded on the principles of social justice, civic engagement, and community empowerment. Its curriculum is designed to challenge students to think critically about societal issues, encouraging them to move beyond traditional classroom learning to become active, informed participants in their local and global communities.

The school emphasizes a small-learning-community model, which allows for closer relationships between students and faculty. By integrating social change themes into its academic core, the Coalition School aims to prepare students not just for college and career success, but for roles as advocates and leaders. Located on 1st Avenue, the school serves a diverse student body, fostering an environment that values personal growth, collaborative problem-solving, and the development of the "whole student" through a lens of equity and social responsibility.
