Santa Fe Indian School

The Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS) is a historic educational institution located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, that serves students from the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico, as well as Apache and Navajo nations. Originally established in 1890, the school has undergone a profound transformation; once a federal boarding school modeled on assimilationist policies, it is now a tribally controlled, independent school system. Today, the school is governed by the 19 Pueblos and operates with a mission to integrate rigorous academic standards with the preservation of Indigenous languages, values, and traditions.
