TRANSITION PLUS

Transition Plus is a Title I public high school that is part of the MINNETONKA PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT school district, located in ST. LOUIS PARK, MN with about 26 students. A Title I school provides supplemental financial assistance to school districts for children from low-income families. Its purpose is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education.

Transition Plus, located on Cedar Lake Road in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, serves as a specialized post-secondary program designed for young adults with disabilities who have completed their traditional high school requirements but remain eligible for special education services (typically ages 18–21). The program operates under the philosophy of bridging the gap between a structured school environment and independent adult living. By shifting the focus away from traditional academic coursework, Transition Plus provides students with a tailored curriculum centered on real-world application, helping them navigate the complexities of life after graduation.

The core of the program’s mission is to foster independence through individualized instruction in vocational training, community participation, and daily living skills. Students engage in activities such as job coaching, career exploration, and learning how to utilize public transportation and manage personal finances. By partnering with local businesses and community organizations, Transition Plus provides its students with authentic work experiences and social opportunities, ensuring they are well-equipped to contribute to their communities and pursue their personal goals with confidence as they transition into adulthood.
