Following the 2019-2020 school year, District 227 made the decision to close Rich East as part of a restructuring plan aimed at consolidating its student body into the remaining campuses, Rich Township High School. While the physical building no longer operates as a high school, it remains a notable landmark in the region, and its legacy continues through the long-standing alumni network and the history of the Park Forest community it served for many years.
