URBAN PREP CHTR WEST CAMPUS HIGH SCHOOL

Urban Prep Chtr West Campus HS is a Title I public charter high school that is part of the Chicago Public Schools Dist 299 school district, located in Chicago, IL with about 213 students offering grade levels from 9th Grade to 12th Grade. A Title I school provides supplemental financial assistance to school districts for children from low-income families. Its purpose is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education.

Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men—West Campus was a notable part of the Urban Prep Academies network, a charter school organization in Chicago specifically designed to serve young men of color. Located in the Near West Side neighborhood, the school operated under a mission rooted in high academic expectations, rigorous college preparatory coursework, and the cultivation of leadership and character. The school gained national recognition for its "all-boys" model and its sustained streak of achieving 100% college acceptance rates for every graduating class during its peak years.

The campus was built on a unique school culture that emphasized personal responsibility, professional presentation (often requiring students to wear blazers and ties), and a structured environment intended to mitigate the challenges faced by students in urban settings. However, the West Campus faced significant instability in its final years, including academic performance concerns, enrollment declines, and legal and financial disputes involving the school’s management organization. Consequently, the West Campus eventually ceased operations as part of the broader restructuring and eventual closure of the Urban Prep network’s individual campuses in Chicago.
