PROJECT SEARCH
PROJECT SEARCH is a public high school that is part of the BREVARD school district, located in COCOA BEACH, FL with about 43 students. With about 6 teachers, PROJECT SEARCH has a student/teacher ratio of about 7:1. The national average for public schools is about 15:1. A lower student/teacher ratio is a key factor that determines how much a teacher can devote his/her time to each individual student thus improving, or reducing (in the event of a higher student/teacher ratio) the attention each student is given for their educational needs.
PROJECT SEARCH, located at 701 W Cocoa Causeway in Cocoa Beach, Florida, is a specialized program operated in collaboration with Brevard Public Schools. Unlike a traditional academic high school, PROJECT SEARCH is an internationally recognized transition-to-work program designed specifically for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The primary mission of the program is to provide young adults with the immersive, hands-on experience necessary to gain competitive, integrated employment upon graduation.
The program functions by placing students in a business or hospital setting, where they participate in a series of job rotations to develop essential professional skills. Throughout the school year, students balance their time between workplace internships—which offer real-world training under the guidance of job coaches—and classroom instruction focused on independent living, communication, and workplace social skills. By leveraging partnerships with local employers, PROJECT SEARCH effectively bridges the gap between the classroom and the workforce, empowering students to achieve long-term career success and independence.
