School Overview
Grizzly ChalleNGe Charter School, located in San Luis Obispo, California, is a unique educational program operated in partnership with the California National Guard. Designed for 16-to-18-year-old students who are at risk of dropping out or who have already left high school, the program utilizes a quasi-military structure to provide a highly disciplined, academic, and physically demanding environment. The goal of the academy is to help students recover academic credits, improve their self-discipline, and develop the life skills necessary to transition successfully into adulthood, whether that involves pursuing higher education, entering the workforce, or joining the military.
The program is structured into a 22-week residential phase followed by a 12-month post-residential mentorship phase. During the residential portion, students live on campus and engage in a rigorous daily schedule that emphasizes "The 8 Core Components": academic excellence, life coping skills, job skills training, health and hygiene, leadership and fellowship, responsible citizenship, service to the community, and physical fitness. By combining traditional classroom instruction with character development and a structured lifestyle, Grizzly ChalleNGe aims to help students reclaim their education and build a foundation for long-term personal and professional success.
