Gateway to College High at Laney College

School Overview
Gateway to College at Laney College is a specialized educational program designed for students aged 16–21 who have either dropped out of high school or are significantly off-track to graduate. Based on the national "Gateway to College" model, the program allows students to complete their high school diploma requirements while simultaneously earning transferable college credits. By situating the learning environment directly on the Laney College campus in Oakland, the program provides students with an authentic college experience, helping to break down barriers to higher education and foster a successful transition into adulthood.

The program is uniquely structured to support students who may have struggled in traditional high school settings by providing a smaller, more personalized community with dedicated academic counselors and instructors. Students benefit from the full resources of the community college, including tutoring, libraries, and career services, while working toward a dual-purpose curriculum. Ultimately, Gateway to College aims to re-engage disconnected youth, provide a pathway to a high school diploma, and build the confidence and academic foundation necessary for long-term success in college and professional careers.
